Description

A hearty and comforting baked casserole made with creamy mashed sweet potatoes layered over savory ground beef and soft cottage cheese. This wholesome dish is rich in flavor, satisfying, and perfect for family dinners or meal prep.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 medium sweet potatoes, about 900 grams total, peeled and cubed
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups cottage cheese, about 340 grams
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 C.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cubed sweet potatoes and cook for about 15 minutes until fork tender. Drain well and mash until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until soft and fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried oregano. Cook until the beef is fully browned and cooked through.
  5. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly in the bottom of a medium baking dish.
  6. Spoon the cottage cheese evenly over the beef layer.
  7. Top with the mashed sweet potatoes, smoothing the surface with a spoon.
  8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the top is slightly golden and the casserole is heated through.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Drain the sweet potatoes thoroughly before mashing to prevent excess moisture.
  • Brown the beef well for deeper flavor.
  • Allow the casserole to rest before cutting for cleaner slices.
  • Ricotta cheese can be used instead of cottage cheese if preferred.
