Description

These crispy, golden Chicken Goujons are oven-baked to perfection, making them a healthier alternative to deep-fried nuggets. Perfect for weeknight dinners, snacks, or meal prep, they’re packed with flavor and have a satisfying crunch. Serve with your favorite dips for a family-friendly meal!


Ingredients

  • 600g chicken breast (or 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts)
  • 50g plain flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 medium free-range eggs, beaten
  • 100g breadcrumbs (see notes)
  • Oil for greasing
 
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  1. Preheat oven to 200℃ fan/220℃/Gas Mark 7.
  2. Grease a baking sheet with oil.

Prepare the Chicken

  1. Slice chicken breasts into finger-shaped strips about 2-3cm wide.

Coat the Chicken

  1. In a small bowl, mix flour, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Dip each chicken strip into the flour mixture, then into the beaten egg, and finally into the breadcrumbs, ensuring an even coating.
    • Alternative method: Place the chicken strips in a lidded Tupperware container, add the flour mixture, and shake until coated. Add the egg, shake again, then add the breadcrumbs and shake one final time.

Bake the Chicken

 

  1. Arrange coated chicken strips on the greased baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 20-23 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Check at 15 minutes if your strips are small to prevent overcooking.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • To make these gluten-free, swap plain flour and breadcrumbs for gluten-free alternatives.
  • These chicken goujons pair perfectly with garlic mayo, honey mustard, or barbecue sauce!
