Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Creamy Gravy:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Meatballs:

    • In a large bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes.
    • Add ground beef, ground pork, onion, egg, garlic powder, allspice, nutmeg, salt, black pepper, and parsley. Mix until just combined.
    • Roll into 1-inch meatballs and place on a tray.
    • Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry meatballs in batches for 6-8 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • Make the Gravy:

    • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
    • Stir in heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
    • Season with salt & black pepper to taste.

  • Combine & Serve:

    • Add meatballs back to the skillet, coating them in the gravy. Simmer for 5 minutes until fully cooked.
    • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, add a splash of sour cream.
  • Make it keto by using almond flour instead of breadcrumbs and serving with cauliflower mash.
  • To make it gluten-free, replace flour with cornstarch and breadcrumbs with crushed pork rinds.

  • Add a spicy twist with ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper in the meatballs.
