Description

Tender slow cooked beef chuck roast seasoned with Italian herbs, shredded and piled high on warm hoagie rolls with melted provolone cheese. A hearty and comforting sandwich perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 8 hoagie rolls

Instructions

  1. Set the slow cooker to low heat.
  2. In a small bowl, mix Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place the beef chuck roast in the slow cooker and rub the seasoning mixture evenly over all sides.
  4. Pour the beef broth around the roast without washing off the seasoning.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the beef is fork tender and shreds easily.
  6. Remove the roast and shred it with two forks.
  7. Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and stir into the juices.
  8. Fill each hoagie roll with shredded beef and top with a slice of provolone cheese.
  9. Place the sandwiches under a broiler for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese melts, if desired.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Cook on low heat for the most tender texture.
  • Lightly toast the hoagie rolls before filling to prevent sogginess.
  • Store leftover beef in its juices for maximum flavor retention.
