Description

This Old Fashioned Banana Cobbler is a warm and comforting dessert made with ripe bananas baked beneath a golden, tender topping with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Simple pantry ingredients come together for a nostalgic treat that is perfect served warm.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 medium ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. Spread the sliced ripe bananas evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the bananas.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  5. Stir in the melted unsalted butter, whole milk, and vanilla extract until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter evenly over the banana layer without stirring.
  7. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and set in the center.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
  9. Scoop into bowls and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness and flavor.
  • Do not stir the batter after pouring it over the bananas to achieve classic cobbler texture.
  • Allow the cobbler to rest before serving so the filling thickens slightly.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
