Description
Mini Stuffed Pizzas (Calzones) are golden, handheld pockets of dough filled with savory tomato sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings, perfect for a fun snack or meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped or grated
- 1 clove garlic, finely diced
- 1 can tomato sauce (29 oz)
- 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
- 2 tubes refrigerated pizza dough or homemade dough
- 4 tablespoons pizza seasoning or a blend of rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Your favorite pizza toppings and cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion and garlic until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, pizza seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Roll out pizza dough and cut into individual portions suitable for mini calzones.
- Place a spoonful of sauce, desired toppings, and cheese onto one side of each dough portion.
- Fold dough over to enclose the filling and pinch edges to seal. Place on prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use a variety of toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
- Ensure edges are well-sealed to prevent filling from leaking.
- These can be made ahead and frozen; bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
