Description

Mini Stuffed Pizzas (Calzones) are golden, handheld pockets of dough filled with savory tomato sauce, cheese, and your favorite pizza toppings, perfect for a fun snack or meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped or grated
  • 1 clove garlic, finely diced
  • 1 can tomato sauce (29 oz)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 2 tubes refrigerated pizza dough or homemade dough
  • 4 tablespoons pizza seasoning or a blend of rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Your favorite pizza toppings and cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion and garlic until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, pizza seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out pizza dough and cut into individual portions suitable for mini calzones.
  5. Place a spoonful of sauce, desired toppings, and cheese onto one side of each dough portion.
  6. Fold dough over to enclose the filling and pinch edges to seal. Place on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a variety of toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach.
  • Ensure edges are well-sealed to prevent filling from leaking.
  • These can be made ahead and frozen; bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
