Description

  • 4 slices part-skim cheddar or 2% American cheese (0.7 oz each)
  • 1 pound 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger rolls (whole wheat or your choice)
  • 4 iceberg lettuce leaves
  • 1 small red onion, sliced into rings
  • 1 ripe tomato, sliced
  • Sliced pickles
  • Ketchup and mustard, optional

Instructions

  • Prepare the grill: Set to medium heat. Clean and oil the grates.
  • Shape the patties:
    • Fold each cheese slice into quarters, stacking them to make 4 short stacks.
    • Divide ground turkey into 8 equal balls and flatten into ¼-inch thick patties.
  • Stuff the burgers:
    • Place a cheese stack in the center of 4 patties.
    • Top with the remaining 4 patties and pinch the edges to seal.
    • Press the edges up slightly for even thickness.
    • Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  • Grill:
    • Place patties on the oiled grill, cover, and cook for 6 minutes per side until cooked through.
  • Assemble: Transfer burgers to buns, add lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Let cool slightly before serving to avoid burning your mouth on the molten cheese.
