Description

Homemade Flour Tortillas are soft, pliable, and perfect for tacos, burritos, or wraps. Made with simple ingredients, they are quick to prepare and cook on a stovetop.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted lard
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  2. Add vegetable oil or melted lard and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide dough into 8–10 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  6. Roll each ball into a thin circle, about 6–8 inches in diameter.
  7. Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown spots appear.
  8. Keep cooked tortillas warm in a clean kitchen towel until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use warm water to help make the dough soft and pliable.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or herbs to the dough.
  • Tortillas are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 2–3 days.
