Description

A comforting savory pie with a flaky homemade crust filled with tender diced ham, melted mozzarella, and a creamy egg custard. Perfect for family dinners, brunch gatherings, or make-ahead meals.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold water
  • 2 cups diced ham, fully cooked
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9 inch shallow pie dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add cold water gradually and mix until a dough forms. Do not overmix.
  4. Roll out two thirds of the dough on a floured surface and press into the prepared pie dish. Trim excess edges.
  5. In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, and black pepper until smooth.
  6. Stir diced ham and shredded mozzarella into the egg mixture.
  7. Pour filling into the prepared crust.
  8. Roll out remaining dough and place over the top. Seal edges and cut small vents.
  9. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until crust is golden brown and filling is set in the center.
  10. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for 20 minutes before rolling if your kitchen is warm.
  • Brush the top crust lightly with milk for a deeper golden color.
  • Allow the pie to rest before slicing to help the filling set properly.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
