Description

A warm, oven-baked gratinated croque layered with tender chicken, creamy sauce, and melted cheese. Crisp on the outside and rich on the inside, perfect for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 thick bread slices
  • 1 cup cooked sliced chicken
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • a pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan, add flour, and stir.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk, then add salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook until thick.
  4. Lightly toast bread and place in baking dish.
  5. Layer chicken and cheese between bread slices.
  6. Spoon sauce over top and sprinkle remaining cheese.
  7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  8. Let rest briefly, then serve.
