Description

A crispy golden Gammon & Cheese Toastie filled with tender savory gammon and melted sharp cheddar, lightly layered with whole grain mustard and toasted in butter until perfectly crunchy.


Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cooked gammon slices, thickly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 thick slices sandwich bread
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread whole grain mustard evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
  3. Season the gammon slices lightly with black pepper.
  4. Spread softened butter evenly on the outside of each bread slice.
  5. Place one slice of bread butter side down in the skillet. Layer with half of the grated cheddar, the gammon slices, and the remaining cheddar. Top with the second slice of bread, butter side up.
  6. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on the first side until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Flip carefully and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted.
  8. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 1 minute before slicing diagonally. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melting texture.
  • Cook over medium heat to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
  • Press gently with a spatula for even browning.
  • Serve immediately for the best crisp exterior and gooey center.
