Description

Tender beef sirloin steak tips seared until golden brown and simmered in a rich, savory onion gravy. This comforting skillet dinner is perfect for busy weeknights and pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin steak tips, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Season the steak tips evenly with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil.
  3. Sear half of the steak tips in a single layer for 2 to 3 minutes per side until browned. Remove and repeat with remaining beef.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and add butter and chopped onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, then stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the onion mixture and stir well to form a paste.
  6. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring constantly, scraping up browned bits from the pan.
  7. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
  8. Return the steak tips to the skillet and simmer gently for another 5 minutes until tender and coated in gravy.
  9. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve warm.

Notes

  • Sear the beef in batches to prevent steaming and ensure proper browning.
  • If the gravy becomes too thick, add a small splash of beef broth while reheating.
  • You can substitute cornstarch mixed with cold water for flour if needed.
  • Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving to allow flavors to settle.
