Scale
- 12 lasagne pasta sheets
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 3 cups tomato sauce
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 large eggs
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant and softened.
- Add the ground beef and Italian sausage to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes to develop flavor.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, eggs, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped fresh basil. Mix until smooth.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Layer lasagne pasta sheets over the sauce, followed by a layer of ricotta mixture, a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, and more meat sauce.
- Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce, remaining mozzarella, and the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20 to 25 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let the lasagne rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Allow the lasagne to rest before slicing to help the layers set properly.
- Drain excess fat from the meat to avoid a greasy sauce.
- Use freshly grated cheese for better melting and flavor.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to four days or frozen for up to three months.
