Description

Savory and creamy buffalo chips made with seasoned ground beef, pork sausage, and melted cheese spread over rye party bread and baked until warm and lightly crisp. A classic crowd pleasing appetizer perfect for gatherings.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound pork breakfast sausage
  • 16 ounces Velveeta cheese, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 package rye party bread, about 24 small slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the lean ground beef and pork breakfast sausage together until fully cooked, breaking apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  3. Drain excess grease from the skillet to prevent the mixture from becoming oily.
  4. Add cubed Velveeta cheese, dried oregano, garlic salt, and red pepper flakes to the hot meat mixture. Stir continuously until the cheese is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and combined.
  5. Arrange rye party bread slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  6. Spoon the warm meat and cheese mixture evenly onto each slice of rye bread.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until heated through and the edges of the bread are lightly crisp.
  8. Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, and serve warm.

  • Drain the meat well to avoid excess grease in the final dish.
