Description

Golden flaky apple turnovers filled with warm cinnamon apples and an optional smooth vanilla cream filling for an extra indulgent touch.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed but cold
  • 3 medium fresh apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Toss until evenly coated.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets slightly and cut each sheet into four equal squares.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the center of each square, being careful not to overfill.
  5. Fold each square diagonally to form a triangle and press the edges with a fork to seal.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Allow the turnovers to cool completely before adding cream filling.
  9. For the cream option, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  10. Slice cooled turnovers gently and pipe or spoon the whipped cream inside if desired.

Notes

  • Keep the puff pastry cold until ready to use for best flakiness.
  • Do not overfill to prevent leaking during baking.
  • Cream filled turnovers should be refrigerated and enjoyed within one day.
