Description

Tender turkey Salisbury steaks simmered in a rich mushroom gravy made with savory broth, onions, and garlic. This comforting skillet meal delivers homestyle flavor with a lighter twist, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, half of the chopped onion, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into oval patties.
  4. Place patties in the heated skillet and brown for 4 to 5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté the remaining onion and sliced mushrooms until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  6. Sprinkle all purpose flour over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.
  7. Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to create a smooth gravy.
  8. Return the browned patties to the skillet. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes until the patties are cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  9. Allow the patties to rest in the gravy for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the turkey mixture to keep patties tender.
  • Brown the patties well before simmering to develop flavor.
  • Stir continuously when adding broth to prevent lumps in the gravy.
  • Reheat leftovers gently with a splash of broth to maintain moisture.
