Description

A classic Irish coffee recipe inspired by The Dead Rabbit, a world-famous bar in New York City. This drink features a perfectly balanced combination of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and whipped cream, creating a warm and indulgent treat that’s perfect for cold evenings or after-dinner relaxation.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey (e.g., Jameson or Bushmills)
  • 4 oz freshly brewed hot coffee
  • 3/4 oz Demerara syrup (or substitute with brown sugar syrup)
  • Freshly whipped cream, lightly whipped (enough to float on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your serving glass by filling it with hot water. Discard the water once the glass is warm.
  2. Add the Irish whiskey and Demerara syrup to the glass.
  3. Pour in the freshly brewed coffee, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top. Stir well to combine.
  4. Gently pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon to float it on top of the coffee.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For the whipped cream, make sure it’s lightly whipped so it floats effortlessly atop the coffee.
  • The Demerara syrup adds depth and richness, but you can substitute it with brown sugar or simple syrup in a pinch.
  • Use high-quality, freshly brewed coffee for the best results.
