- 5 tablespoons water
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 stick butter, softened
- 1 cup pecans, halved
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, brown sugar, and white sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.
- Boil the mixture without stirring until it reaches the soft-ball stage (235–240°F / 113–116°C) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and quickly stir in butter, pecans, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, shaping into small rounds.
- Allow pralines to cool and set completely at room temperature before serving.
Notes
- Use a candy thermometer for precise sugar stages to ensure the correct texture.
- Work quickly when adding butter and vanilla as the mixture can harden fast.
- Store pralines in an airtight container to maintain softness.
