Description

Sweet and Sticky Chicken features tender chicken thighs in a luscious, sweet, and savory sauce made with maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, and soy sauce. Perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, this dish is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the chicken:
  • 750g (26.5oz) of raw boneless skinless chicken thighs, trimmed of fat, sliced into strips
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger root
  • Sea salt and black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • For the sweet and sticky sauce:
  • 4 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste (puree)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) of water
  • Cooking oil spray (e.g., avocado oil)

Instructions

  1. In a jug, combine the water, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, and tomato paste.
  2. Spray a frying pan over high heat with cooking oil spray.
  3. Add the chicken strips, ginger, onion powder, garlic powder, and season with salt and black pepper. Fry until lightly golden on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  4. Add the sauce ingredients to the frying pan, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any bits stuck to the pan for added flavor.
  5. Bubble the sauce on high heat until it thickens. You can test this by running a wooden spoon through the sauceโ€”if it divides, itโ€™s ready.
  6. Once thickened, add the chicken back into the pan and simmer until the chicken is well coated and cooked through.
  7. Taste and season with additional salt and black pepper if needed.
  8. Serve with your choice of sides and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of chili flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the sauce.
  • Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
  • For added texture, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top before serving.
