Description

A flaky, buttery strawberry Danish filled with sweetened cream cheese and fresh strawberries, finished with a simple glaze for a bakery-style treat at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam
  • 6–8 fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar or coarse sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly and cut into desired shapes (squares or rectangles).
  4. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese mixture onto the center of each pastry piece, leaving a border around edges.
  5. Top with a spoonful of strawberry jam and sliced fresh strawberries.
  6. Fold edges over slightly or create a lattice, as desired.
  7. Whisk egg and milk together for egg wash and brush over pastry edges.
  8. Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  9. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  10. While baking, mix powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  11. Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled Danish before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure puff pastry is properly thawed to prevent tearing.
  • Use firm strawberries to maintain shape during baking.
  • Glaze can be adjusted for thickness by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
