Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup strawberry jam
- 6–8 fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar or coarse sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly and cut into desired shapes (squares or rectangles).
- Spread a thin layer of cream cheese mixture onto the center of each pastry piece, leaving a border around edges.
- Top with a spoonful of strawberry jam and sliced fresh strawberries.
- Fold edges over slightly or create a lattice, as desired.
- Whisk egg and milk together for egg wash and brush over pastry edges.
- Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- While baking, mix powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract to make the glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled Danish before serving.
Notes
- Ensure puff pastry is properly thawed to prevent tearing.
- Use firm strawberries to maintain shape during baking.
- Glaze can be adjusted for thickness by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
