Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 4 leaves of lettuce
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 white onion, sliced (optional)
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 5–6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  4. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, lime juice, chopped cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, and salt and pepper to make the Southwest sauce.
  5. Toast the burger buns if desired.
  6. Assemble the burgers by spreading Southwest sauce on the buns, adding the turkey patty, and topping with avocado, tomato, lettuce, and onions.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use lean ground turkey to keep the burgers healthy, but do not overcook to avoid dryness.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper in both the patty and sauce to suit your heat preference.
  • Optional white onion adds extra crunch and sweetness.
