- 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 4 leaves of lettuce
- 1 small red onion, sliced
- 1 white onion, sliced (optional)
- 4 burger buns
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 5–6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, lime juice, chopped cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, and salt and pepper to make the Southwest sauce.
- Toast the burger buns if desired.
- Assemble the burgers by spreading Southwest sauce on the buns, adding the turkey patty, and topping with avocado, tomato, lettuce, and onions.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use lean ground turkey to keep the burgers healthy, but do not overcook to avoid dryness.
- Adjust cayenne pepper in both the patty and sauce to suit your heat preference.
- Optional white onion adds extra crunch and sweetness.
