Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef or lamb
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
  • 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and softened.
  • Add the ground meat, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  • Stir in the cumin, paprika, cinnamon, coriander, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute to toast the spices.
  • Add the diced potatoes and stir well to coat with the spices.
  • Pour in the diced tomatoes and broth. Bring to a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender.
  • Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley or cilantro. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra richness, you can add a tablespoon of tomato paste.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Serve with rice, couscous, or warm pita bread for a complete meal.
