Scale
- 2 lbs ground beef (85/15)
- 1/4 cup chopped scallions, plus more for garnish
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning, plus more for gravy
- 1 packet Sazon seasoning (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
- 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
- 1 medium yellow onion, roughly chopped
- 1 beefy onion soup packet
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, scallions, Cajun seasoning, Sazon seasoning, garlic paste, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, and dried minced onion. Mix gently to combine.
- Form mixture into 6–8 hamburger patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear patties until browned on both sides, about 4–5 minutes per side. Remove patties and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add chopped yellow onion and sauté until softened and caramelized, about 5–7 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to form a roux. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Add beef broth and onion soup packet. Stir and simmer until gravy thickens, about 3–5 minutes.
- Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.
- Garnish with additional chopped scallions and serve hot.
Notes
- Use 85/15 ground beef for the best balance of flavor and juiciness.
- Sazon seasoning can be omitted or replaced with your favorite spice blend.
- Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or creamy grits for a complete meal.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
