Description

These Slow-Cooker Barbecue Sandwiches are a flavorful and easy-to-make recipe, perfect for a busy weeknight or a casual gathering. Tender, slow-cooked pork, homemade seasoning, and barbecue sauce come together for an irresistible sandwich experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 Tbsp. light brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. onion powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 5 lb. bone-in (or 3 to 4 lb. boneless) country-style pork ribs, patted dry
  • 1 sweet onion, thinly sliced lengthwise (about 2 1/2 cups)
  • 1 (16-oz.) bottle barbecue sauce, divided
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Coleslaw (for topping)
  • Dill pickle chips (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika to create the seasoning mix.
  2. Pat the pork ribs dry with paper towels and rub the seasoning mix evenly over the pork, making sure to coat all sides.
  3. Place the thinly sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the seasoned pork ribs on top of the onions.
  4. Pour half of the barbecue sauce over the pork ribs, then cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulled apart with a fork.
  5. Once cooked, remove the pork ribs from the slow cooker and discard the bones if using bone-in ribs. Shred the pork using two forks and return the shredded meat to the slow cooker. Stir to combine with the remaining barbecue sauce.
  6. Toast the hamburger buns, if desired, and then pile the shredded pork onto each bun. Top with coleslaw and dill pickle chips.
  7. Serve and enjoy your slow-cooked barbecue sandwiches!

Notes

  • For a sweeter barbecue flavor, feel free to add more brown sugar to the seasoning mix.
  • If you prefer a spicier sandwich, you can add some hot sauce or sliced jalapeรฑos to the finished sandwich.
