- 2 (8-oz) cans crescent dough sheets
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 6 slices American cheese
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 lb ground beef
- 1 (8-oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 4 tsp yellow mustard
- 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 4 tsp brown sugar
- 4 tsp chili powder
- 4 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375ยบF and spray a 9ร13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain fat and return meat to skillet.
- Add tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, chili powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Whisk together cornstarch and hot water in a small bowl. Add to skillet and cook for 1โ2 minutes until sauce thickens. Remove from heat.
- Press one can of crescent dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the cheese.
- Place American cheese slices on top of the beef mixture.
- Cover with the remaining can of crescent dough sheets.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top dough layer.
- Bake for 20โ25 minutes, or until the crescent top is golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, brush the top dough with melted butter before baking.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Let the bake rest for 5โ10 minutes before slicing to help it set.
