- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 carrot, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 500g (1 lb) beef mince (ground beef)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 1/2 cups beef stock
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)
Instructions
- Sautรฉ the Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sautรฉ for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Brown the Beef: Add the beef mince to the pan and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add Seasoning: Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Simmer: Pour in the beef stock, stir well, and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add Peas & Thicken: Stir in the frozen peas and simmer for another 5 minutes. If a thicker consistency is desired, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the mince. Cook for 2 more minutes until thickened.
- Serve & Enjoy: Serve hot over toast, rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta.
