Description

These British-style sausage roll bites are a delicious, flaky, and savory appetizer perfect for parties or gatherings. Made with homemade British-style sausage wrapped in golden puff pastry, these bite-sized delights are easy to make and sure to impress!

Homemade British-Style Sausage:

  • 1 lb boneless pork butt, cut into 1- to 2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup plain dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp rubbed dry sage
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/3 cup water
  • Pinch of ground mace
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg

Sausage Roll Bites:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 14 oz homemade British-style sausage (from above)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

Homemade British-Style Sausage:

  1. Place pork pieces in a food processor fitted with a steel blade. Process for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, water, salt, pepper, sage, mace, and nutmeg. Process for 30 seconds.
  3. Microwave ½ tablespoon of the mixture for 20 seconds to test seasoning. Adjust spices if needed and process again for 30 seconds.
  4. Use immediately or cover and refrigerate for later use.

Sausage Roll Bites:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
  2. Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface to a 10×15-inch rectangle, then cut in half lengthwise to create two 5×15-inch strips.
  3. Roll 7 oz of sausage into a log and place in the center of one pastry strip. Fold the pastry over the sausage and pinch to seal. Trim the ends and cut into 12 bite-sized pieces.
  4. Repeat with the second pastry strip and remaining sausage.
  5. Arrange pieces on the prepared baking sheet and brush with egg wash.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store-bought sausage can be used if preferred.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Serve with mustard or a dipping sauce for extra flavor.
