Fritters
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups peeled and chopped Honeycrisp apples
- Vegetable or canola oil, for frying
Glaze
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk (plus more as needed)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Flaked sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Heat several inches of oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat until it reaches 350ยฐF. Line a plate with paper towels for draining.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla.
- Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
- Drop 1/4-cup portions of batter into the hot oil (1โ2 at a time) and fry for 3โ4 minutes, flipping once or twice, until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the paper towels to drain. Repeat with the remaining batter.
- For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Add more milk 1 tsp at a time if too thick.
- Once fritters are slightly cool, dip each one in glaze and place on parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle with flaked sea salt.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
