Description

Salisbury Steak is a classic comfort food featuring seasoned ground beef patties smothered in a rich and savory mushroom and onion gravy, perfect served with mashed potatoes or rice.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove patties and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms until browned, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir well to coat.
  6. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
  7. Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for 10 minutes until cooked through.
  8. Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped fresh parsley to the beef mixture.
  • Use low-sodium beef broth to control salt levels.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead and reheated gently.
