Scale
- 12 prepared meatballs of choice
- 1 cup marinara or Simple Tomato Sauce, plus extra for serving
- 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls or pull-apart dinner rolls
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh herbs (basil, parsley, oregano)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
- Kosher salt and ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, mix the ricotta, parmesan, chopped herbs, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Warm the meatballs in a saucepan with the marinara sauce until heated through.
- Slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally without separating them, keeping the sheet intact.
- Spread the herbed ricotta onto the bottom half of the rolls.
- Place one meatball onto each roll and spoon over a bit of the sauce.
- Sprinkle evenly with shredded mozzarella.
- Place the top half of the rolls back on and press gently.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are lightly golden.
- Serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- You can use store-bought or homemade meatballs—beef, turkey, chicken, or plant-based all work.
- To prevent sogginess, drain excess sauce from the meatballs before assembling.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with butter and garlic for extra flavor.
