These Puff Pastry Bites with Caramelized Onions, Fig Jam, and Gorgonzola are the perfect combination of savory and sweet. The rich, caramelized onions paired with creamy gorgonzola and sweet fig jam make these a delicious and elegant appetizer for any occasion!

- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed for 45 minutes
- 1/2 white onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 4โ5 Tbs. store-bought fig jam
- Small wedge of gorgonzola cheese (you wonโt use the whole thing)
- Minced parsley for garnish
- Coarse salt
- Honey or agave syrup, for drizzling
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a medium skillet. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Sautรฉ on low heat for 20-30 minutes, adding soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, until the onions are soft and deeply caramelized.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400ยฐF. Cut the thawed puff pastry sheet into 8 squares. Lightly press them into a muffin tin. Spoon caramelized onions into each puff pastry cup. Brush the tips of the pastry with the beaten egg.
- Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Finish the Bites: Once out of the oven, spoon a little fig jam into each puff pastry bite, and crumble a small amount of gorgonzola on top. Garnish with minced parsley and drizzle with honey or agave syrup for added sweetness.
- Serve: Enjoy these puff pastry bites warm as a delightful appetizer!
Notes
- These puff pastry bites are a great make-ahead appetizer; simply assemble and bake just before serving.
- If you donโt have fig jam, you can substitute it with a different fruit jam or chutney for a unique twist!
