Description

Crispy phyllo rolls filled with a savory ground beef and bell pepper mixture, perfect as a flavorful appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup assorted bell peppers, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green peppers, finely chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup melted butter
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent.
  3. Add ground beef, bell peppers, green peppers, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic. Cook until beef is browned and vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush lightly with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter again.
  5. Place a portion of the beef mixture along one edge of the phyllo sheet. Roll tightly, tucking in the edges to seal the filling.
  6. Repeat with remaining phyllo and filling.
  7. Whisk together milk, egg, pinch of salt, and pinch of black pepper. Brush over the phyllo rolls for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until phyllo is crisp and golden brown.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure phyllo dough stays covered with a damp towel to prevent drying out while assembling.
  • You can add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the beef filling for extra warmth and depth.
  • These rolls can be made ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
