Description

Craving takeout but want something homemade and healthier? This quick and easy Orange Chicken recipe brings crispy golden chicken coated in a sweet, tangy, sticky orange sauce right to your table — all in just 30 minutes! Perfect for busy weeknights, this dish is a family favorite that’s way better than the restaurant version. Serve it over fluffy steamed rice or alongside veggies for a complete meal. Great for anyone searching for healthy recipes, recipes for dinner, or quick high protein meals.

Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp orange zest

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp ginger, minced

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

Instructions

  • Prepare the chicken:
Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Dredge them in cornstarch, then dip into beaten eggs. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken in batches for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  • Make the sauce:
In a saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, brown sugar, orange zest, garlic, and ginger. Simmer over medium heat. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  • Combine:
Add fried chicken to the sauce, tossing to coat. Simmer 2–3 more minutes until heated through and well-glazed.

  • Serve:
Serve over steamed rice or with your favorite sides. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, double-fry the pieces: let them cool for a minute, then fry again quickly.

  • You can use boneless chicken thighs for juicier results.

  • Add chili flakes for a spicy kick.
