Scale
- 1 lb ground turkey (94% lean)
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 32 mozzarella balls (pearl-sized)
- 2-4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 24-oz jar marinara sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or heat a skillet over medium heat.
- In a bowl, combine ground turkey, parmesan, panko, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Take a portion of turkey mixture, flatten in your hand, and place a mozzarella ball in the center. Wrap meat around the cheese, forming a sealed meatball. Repeat with remaining mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown meatballs on all sides, about 2–3 minutes per side, or place on a baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes until cooked through.
- In a saucepan, warm marinara sauce and gently add the cooked meatballs. Simmer for 5 minutes to let flavors meld.
- Serve hot with pasta, on sandwiches, or as an appetizer.
Notes
- Make sure the mozzarella is fully enclosed to prevent it from leaking during cooking.
- Ground turkey is lean, so avoid overcooking to keep meatballs juicy.
- Optional: sprinkle with fresh basil or extra parmesan before serving.
