Description

These Mozzarella-Stuffed Onion Rings with Garlic Butter are a crispy, gooey, and flavorful appetizer thatโ€™s perfect for impressing your guests. Filled with melted mozzarella and coated in crispy breadcrumbs, these onion rings are taken to the next level with a rich garlic butter drizzle!


Ingredients

  • 2 large white onions

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup butter


Instructions

  • Prepare the onions: Peel and slice the onions into 1-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  • Stuff the onion rings: Take the smaller onion rings and stuff them with shredded mozzarella cheese, then top with another onion ring to form a stuffed โ€œsandwich.โ€

  • Coat the onion rings: In a shallow bowl, place the flour. In another bowl, whisk the eggs. In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese. Dip each stuffed onion ring into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.

  • Fry the onion rings: Heat oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium heat. Carefully fry the stuffed onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  • Make garlic butter: In a small pan, melt butter over low heat. Add the minced garlic and sautรฉ until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, you can bake the stuffed onion rings instead of frying them. Simply place them on a baking sheet and bake at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) for about 15 minutes or until golden.
