Description

A delicate layered cake with a tender golden exterior and a rich, creamy custard center that truly melts in your mouth. Made with simple pantry ingredients, this chilled dessert is smooth, comforting, and irresistibly soft.


Ingredients

  • 150 grams all purpose flour
  • 100 ml water
  • 600 ml milk (100 ml for dough, 500 ml for cream)
  • 260 grams butter (80 grams for dough, 180 grams for cream)
  • 6 large eggs (4 for dough, 2 for cream)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 150 grams sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease an 8 inch round baking pan.
  2. In a saucepan, whisk together 500 ml milk, sugar, 100 grams flour, and 2 eggs. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
  3. Remove the cream from heat and stir in 180 grams butter until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  4. In another saucepan, combine 100 ml water, 100 ml milk, and 80 grams butter. Heat until butter melts.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in 150 grams flour, baking powder, and salt until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  6. Beat in 4 eggs one at a time until a smooth batter forms.
  7. Pour half of the dough batter into the prepared pan.
  8. Spread the cream filling evenly over the batter.
  9. Top with the remaining dough batter and gently smooth the surface.
  10. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until golden and set.
  11. Allow to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Whisk the cream constantly to prevent lumps.
  • Chill thoroughly for clean slices and best texture.
  • Do not overbake to maintain the soft creamy center.
