For the Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
For the Filling
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
For Garnish
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy. Then, add in eggs, melted butter, and flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Shape the Buns: Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each bun.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped buns with a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake the Buns: Preheat your oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
- Prepare the Filling: While the buns cool, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Ensure the cream is cold for the best texture.
- Fill the Buns: Once cooled, slice each bun in half and generously fill with the whipped cream. Dust with more powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure your milk is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
- Spoon and level your flour for accuracy to avoid dense buns.
- Allow the buns to cool completely before filling to prevent the cream from melting.
- Experiment with different extracts like vanilla or almond for a twist.
- Keep any leftover whipped cream separate to prevent sogginess.
