Description

Marinated Mozzarella is a simple and flavorful appetizer featuring fresh mozzarella balls infused with herbs, garlic, and olive oil. Perfect for salads, antipasto platters, or as a standalone snack with a touch of tang and spice.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls, ciliegine or bocconcini, drained and patted dry
  • 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar or lemon juice (optional for tang)
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced or thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chiffonade (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional additions: lemon zest, sun-dried tomatoes, olives

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine olive oil, red wine vinegar or lemon juice (if using), garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Add the mozzarella balls to the bowl and gently toss to coat evenly with the marinade.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 2–4 hours, to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Before serving, gently stir and optionally add lemon zest, sun-dried tomatoes, or olives for extra flavor.
  5. Serve as an appetizer, on salads, or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use fresh, high-quality mozzarella for the best flavor and texture.
  • Marinated mozzarella can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes for desired spiciness.
  • Can be prepared ahead of time for easy entertaining.
