Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2832 ounces frozen French fries
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 Tablespoons ranch dressing, plus more for dipping
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons flour
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 cups medium cheddar cheese, freshly shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the frozen fries package directions. Line 2 baking sheets with foil and spray with cooking spray.
  2. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Spread the fries on the prepared baking sheets, dividing them evenly. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the fries, reserving ½ teaspoon for garnish.
  4. Toss the fries to coat them well and ensure they are in a single layer.
  5. Bake the fries as per package instructions, rotating trays if needed.
  6. While fries bake, make the cheese sauce: melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat, whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
  8. Add the shredded cheddar a little at a time, stirring until fully melted.
  9. Keep the sauce warm on low heat; if too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons milk.
  10. To assemble, plate ¼ of the fries, top with ¼ cup cheese sauce, drizzle with ranch, and sprinkle with reserved seasoning.
  11. Repeat with remaining fries. Serve immediately with extra cheese sauce, ketchup, or ranch if desired.

Notes

  • Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother sauce.
  • Keep the cheese sauce warm while assembling to maintain its texture.
  • Customize the spice level by adjusting the chili powder and paprika.
  • Serve with extra ranch or your favorite dipping sauces.
