Scale
- 28–32 ounces frozen French fries
- 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 4 Tablespoons ranch dressing, plus more for dipping
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 2 Tablespoons flour
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 cups medium cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the frozen fries package directions. Line 2 baking sheets with foil and spray with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Spread the fries on the prepared baking sheets, dividing them evenly. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the fries, reserving ½ teaspoon for garnish.
- Toss the fries to coat them well and ensure they are in a single layer.
- Bake the fries as per package instructions, rotating trays if needed.
- While fries bake, make the cheese sauce: melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat, whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
- Add the shredded cheddar a little at a time, stirring until fully melted.
- Keep the sauce warm on low heat; if too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons milk.
- To assemble, plate ¼ of the fries, top with ¼ cup cheese sauce, drizzle with ranch, and sprinkle with reserved seasoning.
- Repeat with remaining fries. Serve immediately with extra cheese sauce, ketchup, or ranch if desired.
Notes
- Use freshly shredded cheese for a smoother sauce.
- Keep the cheese sauce warm while assembling to maintain its texture.
- Customize the spice level by adjusting the chili powder and paprika.
- Serve with extra ranch or your favorite dipping sauces.
