Description

Korean BBQ Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring lean ground beef cooked with vibrant vegetables and flavorful Korean BBQ sauce. Served on soft buns and garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, they offer a savory, slightly sweet, and spicy meal perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil or other neutral tasting oil
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced (dark green parts reserved)
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Korean BBQ sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns (Hawaiian or brioche recommended, optional: grill buns cut-side down in butter)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced green onions and diced red bell pepper; sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  5. Stir in Korean BBQ sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. If desired, grill hamburger buns cut-side down in butter until golden and toasted.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture onto the buns.
  8. Garnish with reserved dark green parts of green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use your favorite Korean BBQ sauce or make your own for a custom flavor.
  • Hawaiian or brioche buns add sweetness that complements the savory filling.
  • Adjust the amount of Korean BBQ sauce to taste for more or less sweetness/spice.
  • Optional toppings can include sliced cucumbers or kimchi for extra texture and flavor.
