Ingredients
-
2 pounds turnips, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
-
4 cups chicken broth
-
4 slices raw bacon, diced
-
2 tablespoons diced onions
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar substitute (Swerve)
-
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
-
1 tablespoon tamari
-
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
-
In a large stockpot, boil turnips in chicken broth for 30 minutes or until fork tender. Drain and set aside.
-
While turnips are cooking, sautรฉ bacon and onions in a large skillet over medium-high heat until bacon reaches your desired level of crispness. Do not drain the bacon grease.
-
Add the brown sugar substitute, red wine vinegar, tamari, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Whisk to combine and simmer for 2โ3 minutes.
-
Add the cooked turnips to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook until heated through. Serve warm.
Notes
-
Swap red wine vinegar for apple cider vinegar for a twist.
-
Make it spicier by adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
-
Great alongside grilled meats or as a holiday side dish!
