Description

These homemade artisan crackers are crispy, savory, and full of flavor. Made with a blend of simple ingredients like flour, olive oil, and seasonings, these crackers are a perfect addition to cheese boards or enjoyed on their own with your favorite dips.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 tbsp fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, or a mix)
  • Optional: 1 tbsp sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, sea salt, sugar, and baking powder.
  3. Add the olive oil and cold water to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Add the fresh herbs and mix well.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it out as thin as possible, about 1/8-inch thick, to achieve crisp crackers.
  5. Cut the dough into desired shapes using a knife or pizza cutter. Place the crackers on the prepared baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow the crackers to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Serve once cooled or store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Notes

  • Adjust the seasoning to your preference. Add garlic powder, onion powder, or Parmesan cheese for extra flavor.
  • For a more rustic look, you can score the dough with a fork before baking.
  • These crackers pair wonderfully with cheeses, spreads, or dips.
