Scale
- 2 cups all purpose flour (272 g)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
- 1 cup sugar (200 g)
- 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 large egg yolks, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 2-3 tablespoons fruit jam of choice (cherry, strawberry, raspberry, etc.)
- 2-3 tablespoons Nutella or other filling of choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour and salt. In another bowl, beat butter, sugar, and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
- Add egg yolks, vanilla, and almond extract (if using). Mix until smooth.
- Gradually add flour mixture and stir until just combined to form a soft dough.
- Roll dough into 1-tablespoon balls and place on baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
- Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to make two small indentations that meet in the middle to form a heart shape.
- Fill each heart with a small amount of jam or Nutella.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are just golden. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to racks to cool completely.
Notes
- Don’t overfill the centers; the filling will spread as cookies bake.
- Chill dough briefly if it’s too soft to shape cleanly.
- Use high-quality jam for the best shine and flavor.
- Dust with powdered sugar for a pretty finish once cooled.
