- Shape the mixture into about 16 evenly sized meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the meatballs in a single layer and sear for 5 to 7 minutes, turning gently until browned on all sides.
- Remove the meatballs briefly from the pan. In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring to combine.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover partially, and simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes until the meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
- Stir in fresh basil leaves just before serving and serve warm.
