Description
Juicy ground beef hamburger steaks are pan-seared and simmered in a creamy, flavorful dill sauce. This quick and comforting 30-minute dinner is perfect served over mashed potatoes.

- 1.3 pounds ground beef
- 4 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 1 medium yellow onion โ grated
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 small yellow onion โ finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves โ minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp chopped dill โ more for serving
Instructions
- Grate the onion into a large bowl. Add ground beef, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, cream, and egg. Mix by hand until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into 4 portions, shape into balls, and flatten each to about ยพ inch thick. Set aside.
- Finely chop the second onion, mince the garlic, and chop the dill.
- Heat oil and butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook hamburger steaks for 4โ5 minutes per side until browned. Transfer to a plate.
- Reduce heat to low. Add garlic and chopped onion to the skillet and cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Stir in salt, pepper, and flour until incorporated. Add chicken broth and simmer for 2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits.
- Add heavy cream and dill. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1โ2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return hamburger steaks to the skillet. Simmer for 5โ6 minutes, or until cooked through.
- Top with additional dill and freshly cracked black pepper. Serve hot.
Notes
- Use freshly chopped dill for the best flavor.
- Make sure not to overmix the beef to keep the patties tender.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
