Description

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy is a classic comfort food, featuring juicy beef patties served with a savory, rich onion gravy. The flavorful steak is made from seasoned ground beef and paired with caramelized onions and a smooth beef gravy for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground black pepper. Mix until just combined and form into 4 patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook over medium heat until softened and caramelized, about 7-8 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the onions and cook for another minute, stirring constantly.
  5. Slowly pour in the beef broth and cooking sherry, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  6. Return the beef patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over the top, and simmer for another 5 minutes to heat through.
  7. Serve the hamburger steaks with the onion gravy over the top. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer gravy, you can add a splash of heavy cream or a tablespoon of butter.
  • Serve the dish with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
