Description

Grilled Naan is a soft, pillowy bread with a slightly crispy exterior, perfect for pairing with curries, dips, or grilled meats. This homemade naan is made with yeast for a perfect rise and grilled to perfection for an authentic flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1.25 ounce package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water with the sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, egg, salt, and garlic salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  3. Gradually add the bread flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until the dough begins to come together. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then roll each ball into an oval or round shape, about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly grease the grill grates with oil or non-stick spray.
  7. Place the rolled-out dough onto the grill and cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side, until bubbles form. Flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until golden and slightly charred.
  8. Brush the naan with melted butter immediately after grilling.
  9. Serve warm with your favorite curry, dip, or grilled meats.

Notes

  • You can also cook the naan on a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat if you don’t have a grill.
  • For an extra flavor boost, you can add finely chopped herbs like cilantro or mint to the dough before grilling.
  • Leftover naan can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
