Halloumi:

  • 225โ€“250g (8 oz) halloumi block (preferably Cyprus-made, PDO stamped)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Optional Finishing Touches:

  • 1 1/2 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1/2 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1/4 tsp white sesame seeds, 1 1/2 tbsp chopped walnuts or pistachios)
  • 2โ€“3 pinches red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Halloumi:

  1. Cut halloumi into 0.4-0.5โ€ (1-1.25 cm) thick slices.
  2. Place on a paper towel and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  3. Warm a serving plate (optional but recommended).

Fry the Halloumi:

  1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Carefully place halloumi slices in the pan. Cook for 1ยฝ minutes, until golden and crispy.
  3. Flip gently using a spatula and a butter knife. Cook for another 1ยฝ minutes until golden.
  4. Transfer immediately to the warm plate.

Finish & Serve:

  1. Quickly drizzle with honey, sprinkle with thyme and optional red pepper flakes.
  2. Serve immediately while hot and crispy!

Notes

  • Halloumi Handling Tip: Be gentle when slicing, as halloumi can have a natural split in the center.
  • Best Served With: Warm pita bread, olives, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
