Description

Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, these Fried Goat Cheese Balls with Spicy Honey are a flavorful, gluten-free appetizer perfect for entertaining or snacking.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 (11 oz) log of fresh goat cheese
  • 1/3 cup tapioca flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Avocado oil or oil of choice for frying
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Chill the goat cheese in the freezer for 10โ€“15 minutes until firm, then roll into 1-inch balls.
  2. Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one with tapioca flour, one with a beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs mixed with paprika.
  3. Roll each goat cheese ball in tapioca flour, then dip into the egg, and finally coat with the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  4. Place the coated balls on a tray and refrigerate for 15โ€“20 minutes to help them set.
  5. Meanwhile, make the spicy honey by combining honey, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan. Warm gently over low heat, then remove from heat and let steep.
  6. Heat about 1 inch of oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, fry the goat cheese balls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 1โ€“2 minutes per side.
  7. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve warm with a drizzle of spicy honey.

Notes

  • Freezing the goat cheese slightly helps with easier rolling and frying.
  • For extra crunch, double-coat the balls by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper in the honey to suit your heat preference.
