Ingredients
Dough:

Instructions

Heat milk in a microwave-safe bowl or glass measuring cup for about 40โ50 seconds until it reaches 110โ115ยฐF.

Sprinkle yeast and ยฝ tablespoon sugar over the milk. Do not stir. Let it sit for 5โ10 minutes until foamy.

Whisk in the softened butter pieces, honey (if using), and beaten egg.

In a stand mixer bowl fitted with the dough hook (or a large mixing bowl), combine flour, remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt. Mix to combine.

Pour in the milk mixture and mix on low until just combined (about 30 seconds), then knead on medium-low for 7โ10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, knead by hand on a floured surface for 7โ10 minutes.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1ยฝ to 2 hours).
